SOPFEU | Suppression

Suppression

An initial attack with a strike force greater than the fire’s potential is the key to a successful suppression operation. In Quebec, the amphibious water bomber is the preferred initial attack tool because it is not only fast, but can also be used on the province’s numerous lakes and rivers. The role of this aircraft is to promptly stop the fire in its tracks.

Very quickly, firefighters join them to mop up the fire. Attack crews, often brought in by helicopter, use equipment such as water pumps, hoses, manual tools and heavy machinery to stop and completely extinguish a fire.

Objective: To extinguish the fire before
it burns a maximum of three hectares.
