Fire #435, known as the Morin-Heights fire, is still considered contained. It now covers an area of 31.4 hectares, with this updated perimeter reflecting the expansion observed over the past 24 hours.

The fire is located between Petit Lac Vert, Lac du Corbeau, and Lac de la Montagne. The eastern edge is now 90% secured, thanks to the hard work of the crews on site. Ten wildland firefighters remain deployed, and the same number will be maintained tomorrow.

Despite the rainfall, small flames were still visible within the perimeter, fuelled by numerous fallen trees in the burned area. A flare-up occurred near Lac du Corbeau, but the fire stopped at the edge of a forest road, which made containment easier and improved operational safety. In that sector, preventive tree-felling work was carried out to prevent unstable trees from falling and spreading embers outside the perimeter.

The ban on open fires remains in effect. Rainfall over the past 24 hours has been highly uneven—heavy in some areas but scattered in others. The SOPFEU, in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Security, continues to monitor weather conditions and fire behaviour and will adjust preventive measures as the situation evolves.

Fire #435, named Morin-Heights, was reported Friday evening after 8:00 p.m. The wildfire is located between Petit Lac Vert, Lac du Corbeau, and Lac de la Montagne. It now covers an area of approximately 20.3 hectares and remains contained, although the situation is still fragile.

During the evening, a flare-up occurred south of the fire, near Lac du Corbeau, over an area of about 2 hectares. The incident was initially handled by the municipal firefighters before being taken over by SOPFEU this morning. Municipal crews remain on site to provide support. The situation is currently under control.

The flare-up is believed to have been caused by falling trees that projected leaves and embers over a long distance, crossing the containment line. This occurred in an area where aircraft carried out several water drops last night; it is presumed that the falling trees contributed to the incident.

Today’s priority is to fell hazardous trees along the fire line to stabilize the perimeter. A total of 10 wildland firefighters, supported by municipal firefighters, are deployed on site.

Residents in the area are asked to stay away from the site, including nearby trails, for safety reasons. A NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) remains in effect above the fire, prohibiting any aircraft—including drones—from flying over the area to ensure the safety of aerial operations.

Fire #435, known as the Morin-Heights fire, was reported Friday evening after 8 p.m. It is currently contained and covers an area of 25.5 hectares. The fire is located between Petit Lac Vert, Lac du Corbeau, and Lac de la Montagne. A total of 11 wildland firefighters are deployed on the ground. Yesterday afternoon, two water bombers carried out drops, and another aerial mission is planned for later today. The fire was particularly active last night, mainly within its perimeter.

As for values to protect, no buildings are currently at risk. Today, a crew is installing a water line between Lac du Corbeau and Lac de la Montagne, which will help complete the containment line around the fire.

Residents in the area are advised to stay away from the site, including nearby trails. This precaution is meant to ensure everyone’s safety, as aerial operations pose risks to people on the ground.

A NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) is currently in effect over the fire. A NOTAM is an official notice issued by aviation authorities to inform pilots of temporary restrictions or hazards in a specific area. In this case, it prohibits any aircraft, including drones, from flying over the area to ensure the safety of aerial firefighting operations.
