.
Quebec City, August 8, 2025 – SOPFEU, in collaboration with the Government of Quebec, continues its efforts to support Canadian provinces severely affected by wildfires. On Sunday, August 10, 60 wildland firefighters and two SOPFEU representatives will be sent to Manitoba, while 40 wildland firefighters and two other representatives will be deployed to Saskatchewan.
On Saturday, August 9, a group consisting of two airtankers and one bird dog aircraft, under contract with private companies, will be deployed to Newfoundland and Labrador. Two SOPFEU air attack officers and the aircraft crews will accompany this mission. In addition, two airtankers from the Government Air Service (SAG) of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, along with their crews, will also fly to Newfoundland and Labrador on Sunday, August 10.
Since the beginning of 2025, Quebec has also provided assistance to California, Alberta, Yukon, and Ontario, reaffirming its commitment to wildfire response cooperation both within Canada and internationally.
Summary of ongoing resource deployments

.
As a signatory to the Canadian Interagency Mutual Aid Resources Sharing Agreement, the Government of Quebec is supporting its Canadian partners by making resources available. SOPFEU and its members fully support these cooperation efforts.
The current stability of the wildfire situation in Quebec allows SOPFEU to assist and support other provinces without compromising its operational capacity within Quebec’s territory. It is important to note that the costs related to resource sharing are covered by the receiving province, based on pre-established rates agreed upon by all provinces and territories, and coordinated by the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre (CIFFC).
Since the beginning of the wildfire season in Quebec, a total of 180 fires have been suppressed in intensive protection zones, affecting 165.9 hectares of forest. This is significantly below the ten-year average of 385 fires for the same date. Despite this very positive record, SOPFEU urges the public to remain vigilant during the summer season, when many vacationers and outdoor enthusiasts are enjoying forested areas.
