The cooler and wetter weather conditions observed over the past few days have helped keep fire danger at a relatively low level across the region.

However, a drier air mass combined with moderate winds will lead to a gradual increase in fire danger over the next few days, particularly in areas that received less precipitation.

Showers and thunderstorms could still affect some sectors over the weekend and locally help reduce the fire danger.

In springtime, dead vegetation found in fields and around residences remains highly flammable when conditions become drier and windier.

After a very busy end of April marked by several human-caused fires, no new fires have occurred in the region over the past week due to lower fire danger and cooler, wetter weather conditions.

However, fire danger is expected to increase over the next few days with the return of sunnier and windier weather. Rainfall expected toward the end of the week should then help reduce the risk.

In springtime, dead vegetation dries out quickly under the effects of sun and wind, making it highly flammable and increasing the risk of fire starts.

Several wildfires occurred between April 24 and 28 in the Lanaudière region. All were caused by human activity, mainly debris burning.

Rainfall in the middle of the week temporarily lowered the fire danger index.

However, in spring, dead vegetation dries out quickly under the effect of sun and wind, making it highly flammable and increasing the risk of wildfire ignition.

Despite rising water levels and flooding conditions observed in several areas of the region, the fire danger could increase in the coming days in open, unflooded areas.

A period of hot, dry, and sunny weather is forecast, which will promote the rapid drying of dead vegetation and light combustibles that are abundant at this time of year in residents' yards and fields.

In the spring, as soon as the good weather arrives, vigilance is essential. Dead vegetation (brush, fallen leaves, etc.) becomes highly flammable.

Snow cover has disappeared across a significant portion of the region. The calculation of the Fire Danger Index has therefore begun in these areas.

In spring, as soon as warm weather arrives, vigilance is required. Dead vegetation (brush, dry leaves, etc.) tends to dry out very quickly under the effects of sun and wind, becoming highly flammable.

The region is still experiencing winter conditions, with snow well present in forested areas. The risk of wildfires there is therefore non-existent.
