Resource Lending - Quebec Sends Reinforcements to Manitoba and Alberta
Quebec City, June 2, 2025 – The SOPFEU, in collaboration with the Government of Quebec, is providing assistance to its counterparts in Manitoba and Alberta, who are currently dealing with significant wildfire situations. This support is in addition to the Quebec teams already deployed in Saskatchewan and Ontario.
On Tuesday, June 3, three crews of twenty wildland firefighters each, along with two SOPFEU representatives, will depart for a 14-day mission in the province of Manitoba. On the same day, a team of 11 major wildfire management specialists will fly to Alberta.

As a signatory to the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre Mutual Aid Resource Sharing Agreement, the Government of Quebec is supporting its Canadian partners by making resources available. SOPFEU and its members fully support these cooperative efforts.
The current situation in Quebec and SOPFEU’s operational capacity allow it to lend resources to partner provinces without compromising its ability to respond within Quebec’s territory.
Since the beginning of Quebec’s wildfire protection season, 105 fires have been fought in intensive protection zones, affecting 105.8 hectares (ha) of forest. In comparison, the ten-year average for this date is 223 fires. Despite this positive outcome, SOPFEU is reminding the public to remain especially cautious as the summer season approaches—a time that is particularly conducive to the outbreak of large-scale wildfires.
